Protecting the Environment- Construction 2007
Baybutt Construction Corporation is in the process of completing a LEED certified project at the Barre Family Health Center, Barre MA, for UMASS Memorial. This project is very special because hospital design typically requires the facility to be operated in a manner that interior air quality conditions be as high-quality as possible. The LEED program on the other hand emphasizes energy savings through reduced operating time of HVAC equipment and Mechanical systems. Through careful attention to detail, planning, and review with all parties involved, the project was able to be built in a manner that is energy efficient as well as meets stringent hospital operating standards.
Baybutt Construction Corporation was very involved through the entire construction process in various aspects.
Preconstruction
Competent and detailed estimating to reflect the cost of LEED certification
Value engineering while maintaining green compliant systems and products
Preparation of job site management plans to ensure green construction and environmental protection
Construction
Stringent LEED accounting from start to finish
Continuous updates for the owner, architect, engineers, and sub-contractors of LEED progress
Verification, research, and record keeping of submitted green building products
Job site supervision carefully monitoring that green practices are being implemented during construction
Job site supervision testing and inspections of indoor and outdoor air quality
Emphasis on sub-contractor participation in all LEED practices taking place on the job site
Problem solving and creative thinking to achieve LEED credits whenever possible
Close-out
Provide documentation on all LEED credits achieved by BCC
Assist in commissioning efforts with the engineer & sub-contractors
The above activities and responsibilities are some, but not all of the tasks we can successfully manage during a LEED construction project.
The LEED program, sustainable and environmentally friendly design and building, are very important issues in today's construction industry. These issues are a philosophy which we embrace at Baybutt Construction.
